Maine South Hawks came out quickly at the start of the game driving the opening possession all the way to the Niles North Vikings 15 yard line. However the drive stalled out on a dropped pass on 3rd down with plenty of empty field in front of the receiver. The hawks settled for a 23 yard field goal by John Oberdheide.
Niles North came storming back on their first possession of the game and a bit of gambling by converting two 4th down plays to sustain the drive. However the drive resulted in no points as 43 yard field goal attempt by Amir Grabic hit the left goal post.
Maine South took over after missed fieldgoal and drove the field assisted by a huge play from Matt Alviti to George Sajenko for 40 yards to the 20 yard line of Niles North. A few plays later saw Matt Alviti connect with Anthony Mitchell 12 yard TD pass driving 80 yards in 6 plays.
The Hawks opened the second quarter by driving the field once again however an interception in the end zone by John Cerniglia ended any chance of scoring on that drive. Maine South could not convert the turnover into any points and punted away to the Vikings. The first half ended with the score Maine North Hawks
On the Hawks next possession Alviti pass for 39 yards to John Solari on a broken play 4:57 left in the 2nd to the 15 yard line. Matt Alviti keeps the ball for a 1 yard td sneak with 4:30 left in the first half.
Maine South was not done scoring in the first half as John Cerniglia intercepts Billy Voitik for the 2nd time with :57 left in the first half. Matt Alviti wasted no time with a touchdown in one play. A touchdown pass from Alviti to Solari for a 57 yards with 50 seconds left in the half. The score at halftime was Maine South Hawks 24 and the Niles North Vikings 0.
The Vikings could not get anything going to start the second half.
A 40 yard punt return by Nathan Gruber setup a 1 play drive. Matt Alviti to Frank Perrone for 25 yard TD on the Hawks first possession of 2nd half.
After a turnover on downs by Vikings resulted in a short field for the Hawks which only took them
3 plays to score on a 25 yard touchdown from Matt Alviti to Zach Hincamp.
The only mistake Matt Alviti seemed to make all night was an interception by J.J. Myles which ended a drive for the hawks deep in the Vikings territory.
Matt Alviti opened the fourth quarter with two big passing plays ending with a 12 yard TD pass to Zach Hinkamp making the score 45-0 with 11:14 left in the game which also resulted in a running clock for the remainder of the game. John Hader had a last second interception which ended the game final score Maine South Hawks 45 Niles North Vikings 0. Matt Alviti had an huge game with 5 touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown.
