An even start was the beginning story of St. Rita vs. Marist. Both teams came out looking to showcase the run game, and it was Marist that came out on top with a couple big runs and some well executed screen passes to go up early in the second 14-7. Hustle and hard hits seemed to be the theme with safties and linebackers flying sideline to sideline to stop these speedy quick backs and a well executed pass rushes to somewhat contain these great Quarterbacks, and the half ended very sloppy and with Marist in front, clinging to a 14-10 lead. The second half started with St. Rita with the pigskin, and they drove right down the field and put the ball in the endzone with a quality running and passing attack, taking the lead 17-14 early into the third. Marist answered not to long after as with about three and a half minutes left, a 7 yard TD run for Marist to take the lead 21-17, and after a turnover by St. Rita's on a pooch kick, the Red Hawks took advantage and quickly scored to take a 28-17 lead in the last minute of third. In the fourth, St. Rita started things over with a short drive and capped it with a 1 yard TD run to pull to within five, and ran in the two point conversion to cut the lead to three 28-25. after a Mustang miscue, The Red Hawks delivered the knockout punch with two minutes to go, scoring on a QB sneak to go up 35-25 and after a crucial interception by The Red Hawks, they ran the clock to the brink, and hold on for a 35-25 victory over the St. Rita Mustangs.
